ICYMI: Governor Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Davis, Harrisburg Leaders Announce a New Plan to Revitalize Downtown Harrisburg

The Shapiro Administration is investing $22.7 million to drive revitalization efforts in Pennsylvania’s capital city to create a better place to live, do business, work, and visit.

Harrisburg, PA – Yesterday, Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis brought together leaders from the Commonwealth, city and county government, business community, and local nonprofit organizations to revitalize Downtown Harrisburg — backed by $64 million in new public and private investment, including $22.7 million in new Commonwealth funding.

Called Harrisburg Works for All of Us, the plan was developed with local officials, businesses, nonprofits, community stakeholders, and more than 4,400 Harrisburg residents to identify the challenges facing Downtown and the investments needed to build a stronger, more vibrant capital city. The plan calls for construction of a new hotel, improvements to Riverfront Park, safer streets, support for local businesses, and cheaper parking.

Over the past five months, the Shapiro Administration has worked with local officials, businesses, nonprofits, community organizations, and residents to understand what is holding Downtown Harrisburg back — and what can help move it forward. This vision lays out the bold steps we need to take to ensure Downtown Harrisburg can reach its full potential.
